Mwakinyo promises to win his next fight

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s highly-rated professional boxer, Hassan Mwakinyo, is optimistic that the March 23 fight to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, will improve his world professional boxing ranking.

Mwakinyo, who has dropped three places in the world rankings after failing to get a fight in months, is now in residential training camp in Liverpool, England, courtesy of SportPesa Tanzania.

The boxer is now ranked 19 out of 1,845 professional boxers in the world. After shocking the world with the technical knockout (TKO) win in the second round against Sam Eggington on September 8, last year at the Arena Birmingham, Mwakinyo was ranked 16th in the super welterweight category. Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Mwakinyo said he is optimistic about improving his chance in the world rankings after the next fight. “Although I do not know my opponent due to changes, my training here is to make me fit and fight any professional boxer. I am not ready to lose my next bout,” said Mwakinyo. Mwakinyo, 23, said he is now better in the game because of good training from professional trainers.

The boxer is being trained by famous professional boxer Tony Bellew’s trainer. Bellew gained prominence in the game after registering two Technical Knockout wins against David Haye. The camp also includes Kenyan women’s professional boxer, Fatuma “Iron Fist” Zarika who is the current World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Bantamweight Champion.
