What you need to know:

  •  Mzize, who still has two years remaining on his contract, has emerged as one of Tanzania’s most promising young strikers, attracting interest from top African and Middle Eastern clubs.

Dar es Salaam. Young Africans SC (Yanga) are closing in on what could become one of the most financially rewarding transfers in their history, as negotiations continue for the potential sale of rising striker Clement Mzize to Qatar outfit Al Asad.

Sources close to the club have confirmed to The Citizen that discussions are in advanced stages, with Yanga set to earn more than Sh2 billion from the proposed deal. While a final agreement has yet to be signed, both parties are said to be optimistic and ironing out the last details.

“We are in the final phase of negotiations and hope to make an official announcement soon,” a senior Yanga source said. “Mzize is an important asset for us, and while we value his contribution, we also have to consider the opportunity this transfer presents for both the club and the player.”

Mzize, who still has two years remaining on his contract, has emerged as one of Tanzania’s most promising young strikers, attracting interest from top African and Middle Eastern clubs. The 22-year-old has been a key figure for Yanga in recent seasons, and his steady goal-scoring form has made him a sought-after talent.

According to club insiders, the Qatari interest is not new — but unlike previous suitors such as Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco and Egypt’s Zamalek SC, Al Asad have met Yanga’s valuation and are committed to pushing the deal through. Still, salary discussions between Mzize’s representatives and the club remain ongoing, making them the final hurdle before a deal can be concluded.

“Clubs like Wydad and Zamalek showed strong interest but did not meet our expectations,” the Yanga official revealed. “This time, with Al Asad, things are progressing well, and we believe the deal will benefit all parties.”

Yanga, who are preparing for the 2025/26 season with a strengthened squad, view this move as a strategic step — one that allows them to cash in on a valuable player while continuing to build for both domestic and continental success.

If completed, the transfer will mark a major milestone for Yanga’s evolving player development and commercial strategy.
