Dar es Salaam. The 21st edition of the Rotary Goat Races lit up Dar es Salaam’s social calendar on Saturday, as thousands of fans thronged The Green in Oysterbay for one of the city’s most anticipated annual charity events.
The lively spectacle, featuring 70 goats divided into seven teams of 10, delivered a thrilling mix of sport, fun, and entertainment.
Spectators were treated to a series of quirky races, children’s games, line dancing competitions, and music from top DJs, making the day a festival for families and fans alike.
The goats competed in seven entertaining races, each uniquely branded by sponsors. The contests included Pepsi Mwamba Wao, Automark/Toyota, Yara Yara Tanzania, The 5G Race (Vodacom Tanzania), The Tanzanite Dream, Kili BaaaaaaRRR-IDI, and All Hits Goat Rodeo.
Race one was won by Besty’s Bride, followed by Jim Leaves in race two and Soft Life in race three. The action continued with Sahara claiming victory in race four, Supa Komando winning race five, Billy the Texas Ranger taking race six, and finally Ole Mbuzi wa Manyatta sealing triumph in the seventh and last race.
Adding to the fun, Vincent van Goat was crowned the “Best Goat,” an award that had the crowd roaring with laughter and applause.
The combination of competition and comedy has become the hallmark of the Rotary Goat Races, drawing both loyal followers and first-time visitors every year.
Organizers noted that this year’s edition is expected to attract more than 5,000 participants, reaffirming the event’s reputation as a must-see on Dar es Salaam’s cultural and social calendar.
Project Manager Paul Muhato praised the turnout and energy, saying: “The event was truly thrilling, and we are grateful to all the fans, partners, and sponsors whose contributions made this possible.
The Rotary Goat Races continue to bring people together for fun, while also making a positive impact through charity.”
The event was supported by major sponsors including Vodacom Tanzania and Pepsi, alongside a wide range of partners such as EATV, YARA, Automark/Toyota, TBL, Tiketika, Hotel Slipway, JC Decaux, Bowmans, Secure 7 System Limited, and many more.
From families enjoying children’s activities to fans cheering passionately for their favorite goats, the 21st Rotary Goat Races once again proved that this light-hearted yet impactful event remains one of Dar es Salaam’s most vibrant traditions.
