Simba beat Mtibwa Sugar in intense six-goal thriller

Morogoro. Football giants in the country, Simba SC, yesterday kick started the Mainland Tanzania Premier League campaign with a bang after beating Mtibwa Sugar 4-2 at Turiani’s Manungu Complex in Morogoro.

Simba opened the score in the fifth minute through Jean Baleke after he was set clear by Kibu Dennis and three minutes later Willy Onana added the second.

Mtibwa Sugar increased pace in the game and managed to score two goals in two minutes.  Matheo Anthony scored in the 20th minute and he later equalized in the 22nd minute.

The goals increased the tense of the match and Simba celebrated their third goal in the 44th scored by Fabrice Ngoma, and later Clatous Chama scored the fourth in the 80th.

Simba head coach Olivier Robertinho commended his players for the victory despite the defence blunder that allowed Mtibwa Sugar to equalize.

Mtibwa Sugar head coach Habib Kondo said they made mistakes that allowed Simba to score four goals in the match and promised to rectify them in the ircoming matches.

 Meanwhile;

The league continues today at in two different venues as Ihefu FC host Kagera Sugar from 4pn at the Highland ground in Mbarali, Mbeya while at the Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi, Namungo FC meet Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) at 7pm.

The matches are crucial for all the four teams to record victories in the league. Kagera Sugar and Namungo FC need victories to console their members and fans after losing their opening matches.

Kagera Sugar lost 2-0 to newly promoted Mashujaa FC at the Lake Tanganyika Stadium on August 16, while Namungo FC failed to utilize their home ground well by losing 1-0 to another new entrants, JKT Tanzania.

So far, Azam FC are at the top of the league standings with three points after winning 4-0 over newly promoted Kitayosce FC. 

Also with three points are Mashujaa FC, Dodoma Jiji FC, who won 2-1 over Coastal Union in the opening match, JKT Tanzania, and Geita Gold FC, who won 1-0 over Ihefu FC.
