Simba claw Mgambo to go top, Yanga slip

Dar es Salaam. Rampaging Simba SC thrashed Mgambo JKT 6-0 in a one-sided Vodacom Premier League match at the National Stadium yesterday to leapfrog JKT Ruvu to the top of the table.
Simba, who had a shaky start to the new season, had Amis Tambwe to thank after finding the back of the net four times. Other goals were scored by Haruni Chanongo.
In Mbeya, Yanga could not get back to winning way after playing out a one-all draw against hosts Tanzania Prison at the Sokoine Memorial Stadium.
Jerry Tegete put Yanga in the lead in the 37th minute, but the tired looking squad could not hold on to the slim advantage and Prison’s Peter Michael punished them with a superb equaliser with just 13 minutes to time.
JKT Ruvu, who boasted to maintain their unbeaten run, hit the brick wall at Mabatini ground, slumping to 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ruvu Shooting, thus allowing Simba to replace them at the top.
Azam, another outfit tipped to challenge for the title this season, have yet to find their rhythm. They drew 1-1 with minnows Ashanti United at their favourite stadium—Chamazi.
Simba have taken their points to 10, one above second placed Ruvu Shooting and JKT Ruvu while defending champions Yanga and Azam tie on six points after four outings.
In yesterday’s other results, hosts Mtibwa Sugar and Mbeya City fought to a goalless draw while Kagera Sugar beat JKT Oljoro 2-1 at Kaitaba Stadium.
Coastal Union survived defeat from Rhino rangers at Mkwakwani venue when Jerry Santo equalised late to save face. The Tabora boys took the lead through Salum Majid in the 26th minute.
The league rolls into the fifth round on Saturday with Simba hosting Mbeya City, but the biggest match will be on Sunday when Yanga and Azam square up at the National Stadium.
