Tanzanite represent Tanzania in KCB East Africa Golf Tour finals in Kenya

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzanite team, formed by four Tanzanians from Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam, is representing Tanzania in the finals of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour scheduled to tee off today in Kenya.

The finals are to be held on the Sagona golf course in Nairobi, with the Tanzanian team being led by Maj Gen Ibrahim Mhona.

Speaking on behalf of the Group Regional Businesses Director, KCB Group and the Managing Director of KCB Bank Tanzania, Frida Shirima, who is the Head of Legal for KCB Bank Tanzania, expressed confidence in the team.

She stated: "We named this team ‘The Tanzanite’ specifically to showcase our country, Tanzania. As you know, Tanzanite is a rare gemstone found only in Tanzania, and its uniqueness reflects this special team representing our country in these prestigious competitions in Kenya. We believe they will bring home the victory."

The players forming the team are Hawa Wanyeche, Hadija Suleiman, Peter Mlewi, and Maj Gen Ibrahim Mhona, all seasoned golfers.

The Tanzanite team will compete against players from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi. The tournament promises significant prizes, with the overall winner set to receive KSh1 million (Sh20 million).

Additionally, there is a house worth KSh2.1 million (Sh42 million) for any player who achieves a hole-in-one. Speaking about the team’s preparations, Maj Gen Mhona encouraged Tanzanians that the team would bring victory home.

"We are optimistic about performing well because of our team’s experience. We have prepared well, and the players have assured me they will play their best. We ask all Tanzanians to keep us in their prayers," said Maj Gen Mhona.
