Dar es Salaam. Yanga SC President, Engineer Hersi Said, has confirmed that the club rejected a lucrative $2 million (over Sh5 billion) offer for their star striker, Clement Mzize, as the Jangwani Street giants focus on conquering the Mainland Tanzania Premier League and making a mark in the CAF Champions League.

Speaking during the ongoing Yanga Annual General Meeting at The Super Dome in Masaki, Hersi said the offer arrived amid intense pressure to sell the young forward, but the club’s management opted to keep him, recognizing his importance to the team’s ambitions.

“Many offers came for our young player, but Yanga had no bad intentions; we knew what we wanted,” Hersi said. He revealed that Mzize personally called to inquire about the club’s stance, asking, “President, tell me the club’s position. Do you want me to leave or stay?”

Hersi responded, urging patience and commitment: “Be patient for now, focus on the national team, continue scoring goals, and after CHAN we will discuss.”

Mzize’s performance during the CHAN finals further solidified his value to the club. Following the tournament, his contract was upgraded, making him one of Yanga’s best-paid players and reinforcing the club’s strategy to retain top talent.

“As we speak, Mzize has two years remaining on his contract. Once that period ends, we will consider selling him,” Hersi added, without specifying potential destinations, though the striker had previously attracted interest from Kaizer Chiefs, Al Masry, and Esperance.

The decision to retain Mzize sends a strong signal about Yanga’s ambitions for the upcoming season. By keeping one of their most potent attacking assets, the club is positioning itself to compete aggressively both domestically and in continental competitions.

Fans and members have welcomed the news, recognizing that prioritizing team success over immediate financial gain could pay dividends in league standings and CAF Champions League performance.

With Clement Mzize on their roster and a clear strategy to build a competitive squad, Yanga SC aims to dominate Tanzanian football while continuing to showcase their talents on the African stage.
