  • "There is a high demand for education. I am drawing lessons from a recent crusade by Dar es Salaam RC Paul Makonda. So many men and women flocked to his office to seek for legal assistance when he announced the service. This means not many knew where to go," she said.

Dodoma Special seats Member of Parliament, Fatma Toufiq(CCM), said on Friday April 13 that Dar es Salaam, RC Paul Makonda's crusade on parents who abandoned children should alert the government that there is a clear lack of awareness’s in Tanzania on how to respond to social problems.

Ms Taufiq said this during a question and answer session in parliament.

"There is a high demand for education. I am drawing lessons from a recent crusade by Dar es Salaam RC Paul Makonda. So many men and women flocked to his office to seek for legal assistance when he announced the service. This means not many knew where to go," she said.

She stood in parliament and directed a question to the deputy minister of Health, Community, Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Dr Faustine Ndugulile, seeking to know if the government was taking measures to educate the public on how to deal with psycho-social problems.

Dr Ndugulile said there are 18 centres for offering education. He noted that 2 of them are public institutions and 16 of them are privately owned.

However, the medic said the government was banking on the MP's advice on public education.

"We are taking your advice and would look into ways of accommodating it in our plans," said Dr Ndugulile.
