Dar/Dodoma. Families of a female lecturer stabbed to death at her home – and a nurse hit by a hard object and clandestinely buried in a makeshift grave by her attacker – are going through a rough time trying to come to terms with what is suspected to be crimes of passion that hit them this week.
In Dodoma, an investigation is underway after a university lecturer identified as Rose Mdenye was stabbed on Friday at her home in the Swaswa area in the city.
University of Dodoma public relations officer Beatrice Mtenga told reporters yesterday that details are still murky about the perpetrator and motive of the murder.
But witnesses who talked to The Citizen on Sunday revealed that the lecturer was murdered in a crime of passion – whose finer details remained dark by end of day yesterday.
“She was a member of Udom School of Business Studies and Economics. Burial arrangements are being held at Kisasa Sheli in the city,” said Ms Mtenga.
Dodoma Police Commander Gilles Muroto said he had not yet been briefed. “I will issue an official statement on Sunday,” Mr Muroto noted. Dr Caroline Damian, doctor-in-charge at Dodoma Regional Hospital, said the 31-year-old’s body was pierced by sharp objects.
In Mkuranga District, Coast Region, the police are also holding a man in connection with the death of his wife, identified as Rosemary Magombora, 43. The deceased was a senior nurse at the Mkuranga District Hospital.
According to Rufiji Special Police Zone acting commander, Mohamed Likwata, the incident occurred on May 21. He said the deceased was hit with a hard object.
He said after she died, the suspect buried the body near their house in Mkwalila Village. “Primary investigations show that the husband was accusing his wife of infecting him with HIV,” he said, adding that the man always claimed that his wife was cheating on him.
Mr Likwata said they learnt about the incident after the husband appeared before the police to report that his wife had gone missing since the night of May 20.
“We suspected that something was not right about his report. We then launched an investigation. There was a hole near the home that we were suspicious of. We sought court permits to dig it, and the body was found there,” he said.
Commander Likwata said that the suspect is still in police custody.
The medical officer in charge of Mkuranga District Hospital, Dr Stephen Mwandambo, confirmed that the deceased used to work at the hospital and that the management and staff were still in shock over the news.
“I saw her for the last time on Friday. We are saddened and shocked by her demise, it is inhuman,” he said adding that they were finalising the post-mortem processes before handing over the body to relatives for burial arrangements.
