Dodoma. The government has issued a directive to all employers in the country to join the Workers’ Compensation Fund, which was formed recently by the Act of the Parliament.

Answering questions in the ongoing House meetings yesterday, the deputy minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Ms Stella Manyanya said the security funds were important for it saves worker whenever bad luck strikes.

She was answering a question from a Member of Parliament (Special Seats), Ms Lathifa Chande, who also queried Mtama Cashewnut Factory contract, which formerly was under Cashew-nut Boars of Tanzania.

“What actions the government is taking to rescue the workers of Mtama Factory, who are under the management of foreign investors? They are currently suffering from poor working conditions and also do not have contracts as the labour law stipulates,” the Mtama legislator queried.

The deputy minister clarified that Mtama Cashew-nut Factory was divested by 100 per cent to Lindi Farmers Association (LFA) whose owners decoded to contract to Sunshine.

The LFA decided to contract the factory to the foreign investor in order to improve operational efficiency, according to Ms Manyanya.
