Dodoma. The minister for Agriculture, Dr Charles Tizeba, says the government is expected to construct a plant to manufacture pesticides to counter destruction of crops in the country.

Dr Tizeba made the statement today, June 14, 2018,when responding to a supplementary question by Special Seats MP (CCM) Zaynabu Vuluwho sought to know what strategy was being used to save palm trees from withering in Coast Region as they were similar to coconut trees in nature.

The minister responded that crop withering was a disease affecting many farm plants and that the method being used currently to counter the disease was to make the oil palms clean.

However, he said such a method was also causing losses as a number of scientists in the world were now moving towards using pesticides as an alternative.

“This study is still being carried out at our different research centres. We want to construct a plant that will produce pesticides to counter the withering disease affecting our crops,” said Dr Tizeba
