RC urges residents to join improved health scheme

Babati. Manyara regional commissioner Joel Bendera has directed Babati District Council to ensure 40,642 households are registered with the Community Health Fund (CHF) by December.

He was speaking to residents of Duru Ward in Goroa Division.

The district has at least 81,284 families.

The regional boss said the health insurance cover was a must for everyone urging civic leaders to sensitise residents to join the scheme.

“The deputy minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elders and Children, Dr Khamis Kigwangallah has issued a directive that the region should make sure that after six months half of its residents are covered by the scheme,” he said.

The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) manager in Manyara Region, Mr Isaya Shekifu, said the improved CHF scheme now covers six family members, namely father, mother and four children aged below 18 years and families only needs to contribute Sh30,000 annually.

“Under the new system, CHF takes care of hospitalisation, surgery and X-rays among other health services,” he said.
