Ten/Met wants the government to take serious measures against people involved in the leaking the Standard Seven exams. It says, the leak was one way of destroying the quality of education and was against the government’s efforts to fight corruption

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Education Network (Ten/Met) has strongly condemned leakage of Standard Seven examinations that led to the cancellation of results of all primary schools in Chemba District, Dodoma Region and eight other schools.

Ten/Met has also asked the government to undertake an in-depth investigation and take strong measures against education officers and teachers who were involved in leaking exams.

Addressing members of the media today, Thursday, October 4, the coordinator of Ten/Met, Ms Cathleen Sekwao, said the leakage was meant to lower the quality of education.

“The teachers and those who were involved in the leakage used our children for their private gain, which isn’t right and should be condemned by every member of the society, “she said.

She added that the move also held back government efforts to fight corruption and improve the quality of education.

In another development, Ms Sekwao commended the decision to issue another exam, but suggested that it should be done at least one month later.

“It’s good that the pupils have been given the opportunity to re-seat the exams, but it shouldn’t be this early. Pupils need some time to prepare themselves for the exams,” she said.

Schools whose results were cancelled, as announced by the executive secretary of National Examination Council of Tanzania (Necta), Dr Charles Msonde, on Monday October 2 are Hazina and New Hazina Primary schools both in Kinondoni (Dar es Salaam).

Others are Aniny Nndumi and Fountain of Joy in Ubungo (Dar es Salaam) as well as Alliance and New Alliance primary schools in Mwanza all primary schools in Chemba district, Dodoma region.
