Mtwara. Two residents of Mtwara Municipality have been arraigned for possessing 24 fake yellow fever cards.

The duo are said to be involved in making and selling the cards to those in deed, which is contrary to the law, Mtwara regional Police commander Lucas Mkondya has said.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, September 15, Mr Mkondya said the suspects were arrested on August 3 in one of the guest houses in Mtwara Municipality.

“One of them is the owner of the guest house. It was information from him that two others were arrested. They have been selling these cards to those who expect to travel overseas,” he said.

He reminded Mtwara residents to obey the laws of the land as the police would have no mercy with anyone violating them.

For their part, some Mtwara residents who spoke to The Citizen asked the government to enhance control on issuance of the yellow fever cards to protect health of individuals.

“Issuance of fake cards puts our lives in danger so the government should improve the control for the safety of our health,” said Mr Jumbe Hamis.
