Ali Shamhuna is no more, to be buried today

Former deputy chief minister in the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (RGZ) Ali Juma Shamhuna has died in Zanzibar on Sunday, May 19, 2019 and he is expected to be buried at his home Village of Donge in Unguja today, May 20, 2019.

Dar es Salaam. Former deputy chief minister of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (RGZ) Mr Ali Juma Shamhuna is no more.

Reports from the Isles says Mr Shamhuna died on Sunday, May, 19, 2019 in Fuoni, Unguja and is scheduled to be buried on Monday afternoon, May 20, 2019 at his home village in Donge, Unguja North.

Speaking to The Citizen on Monday, May 20, 2019, a member of the family, Mr Shaibu Maulid said Mr Shamhuna had a long battle with diabetes and blood pressure.

“He has been sick for a long time. But, yesterday his health deteriorated and eventually died. We call on the public to pray for him,” he said.

Regarding the burial arrangements, he said the family had decided that he would be buried today in order to enable participation of citizens and leaders from different places of the country.

Mr Shamhuna was born in 1944 at Donge Village served the SMZ in various capacities including the House Representative for Donge, deputy chief minister, the minister for Information, the minister for Tourism, Culture and Sports, the Education minister and the minister for Livestock and Fisheries.
