  • Archbishop of Arusha, Isaac Amani has cautioned Tanzanians against human activity that has continued to cause environmental degradation which as a result has been the cause of reduced rainfall.

Arusha. Catholic Archbishop of Arusha, Isaac Amani has cautioned Tanzanians to reserve some food for future use, alerting that the delayed rains in many parts of the country was likely cause poor harvest this year.

The Archbishop issued the remarks while addressing a congregation on Good Friday ecumenical service held at Sheikh Amri Abeid grounds on Friday, April 19.

The service brought together the high-profile religious leaders and Christian worshippers from different Christian denominations in the country who gathered to commemorate the day.

“There will be food shortage in the near future. Those who still have enough food, I urge them to make sure they use it sparingly,” said the Archbishop.  

The church leader further pointed out that human activity such as deforestation was a key factor that has contributed to inadequate rainfall in the country.

To mitigate environmental degradation in the country, the Archbishop advised Tanzanians to plant more trees in their respective areas with a particular focus on restoring and maintaining natural vegetation

Archbishop Amani also called upon citizens to join Health Insurance Schemes in order to be able to afford treatment costs and access quality medical services in the hospitals countrywide.

“Many people die in Tanzania today because they cannot afford the treatment in hospitals. I, therefore, encourage you all to join the health insurance schemes so as to have access to quality medical services,” said the Archbishop.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) Bishop Solomon Masangwa for North Central Diocese told the Christians in the country to be good examples in their societies and adhere to their churches’ doctrines.

He further urged the Christian worshippers countrywide to celebrate this year’s Good Friday by living a faithful life.
