Dar es Salaam.  Simba Sports Club has urged its members and fans to remain calm as security organs search for the club’s chief financier, Mohammed Dewji (Mo).

Mo, who is ranked as one of the richest Tanzanians, was abducted at dawn when he walked into a gym at Colosseum Hotel.

Mo is to be officially given a 49 per cent ownership of reigning Mainland Tanzania Soccer champions, Simba, after the club’s elections scheduled for next month.

His interest in Simba has brought a new breath of life into the club that had not been in a ‘very good’ shape for at least five seasons.

Mo reportedly spent over Sh1.4 billion on registration of players and abroad training camps that saw Simba winning the championship last season.

Speaking on Thursday, October 11, 2018 shortly after news broke that Mo had been abducted, Simba’s information officer, Haji Manara said the club’s fans must remain calm as police conduct a manhunt into the abduction.

“There is no need for panic. Let’s give time for security agencies to do their job…the RC (Regional Commissioner) will be giving updates on the matter,” he told The Citizen.

He said it was obvious that the Simba fraternity was concerned at what might have happened to their key financier but called upon fans to remain calm as security agencies conduct their job.

Meanwhile, Young Africans leadership has also called upon the clubs fans to join their archrivals in prayers for Dewji’s release by his abductors.

“As Dar es Salaam Young Africans, we have been shocked by Mo’s ‘abduction’ and we would surely want security organs to conduct their job so that all those involved can be arrested and brought to book,” the Dar es Salaam Young Africans information officer, Mr Dismass Ten said.
