Dar es Salaam.  After the long wait, motorists crossing the Tazara area at the junction between Nelson Mandela Expressway and Julius Nyerere Road have started using the flyover whose construction is now over, The Citizen has observed.

Today, Saturday, September 15, The Citizen saw vehicles from the City Centre headed to the Julius Nyerere International Airport direction and vice versa crossing the junction using the flyover.

Plans already in place to have the infrastructure inaugurated next month by President John Magufuli.

It has also been hinted that the structure would be christened Mfugale flyover in recognition of steadfast contribution and expertise of Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads) chief executive officer Patrick Mfugale.

The flyover was funded by the government of Japan through its Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica).

On August 29 this year, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said the construction was complete by 98 per cent.

He made the statement after he toured the construction site to inspect progress, at the end of which he said he was generally impressed.

“The construction of this flyover has considered the need for Rapid bus transit project to Gongo la Mboto from the City Centre. In this case, the contractor has set aside enough space that would be used for Dart project that will kick off any time soon," said the Premier.
