Mwakinyo’s opponent targets KO win in Dar

Dar es Salaam. The Philippines’ Arnel Tinampay has promised to give Tanzanian boxing sensation Hassan Mwakinyo a fight of his life when they face off on November 29.
He warned Mwakinyo yesterday that he will be in the country for a win and nothing less during the much anticipated fight.
“I am right on track. I have two or so weeks more to go and I am ready,” the boxer was quoted as saying from Manila.
Tinampay, one of the best super welter weight boxers in the Philippines, is expected in the country on Monday for the bout to be held at the Uhuru Stadium.
He said that he was in great shape, looking forward to registering a KO win in what promises to be an exciting fight.
For his part, Mwakinyo said good boxers only show what they are made of in the ring, promising to give his opponent a real run for his money.
“My preparations have been going on well. I know that my opponent also needs a win, but there is a lot at stake, so I am going to give it my best,’’ he said.
Mwakinyo – who is ranked number one in Africa and 19th in the world for super welterweight boxers – added: “I have no doubt that I will put up on a good show.”
And if his non-title fight against England’s Sam Eggington in Birmingham last year is anything to go by, Tinampay should not expect an easy ride.
It was one of the undercards of a world heavyweight fight between Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin.
Mwakinyo shocked the arena by silencing his opponent.
Luckily, Eggington managed to see out the first round, but the referee Mark Lyson had seen enough in the second, leading to jubilant scenes and ecstasy for the Tanzanian boxer.
