Bourse’s turnover jumps by 151pc at week’s opening day

  • The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) equity market turnover rose by 51 per cent last week, while total market capitalization depreciated by at by Sh67.78 billion and DSEI has also decreased due to share price fell in some counters.

Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) turnover rose by 151 per cent on Monday.

It recorded the turnover of Sh786.18 million from trading 200,536 shares in 77 deals, higher than Sh313.09 million transacted on Friday last week.

Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) dominated Monday’s transactions. The TBL counter had the turnover of Sh718.21 million, being 91.4 per cent of the transacted value.

The counter had 55,675 shares traded at the weighted average price of Sh12,900 per share in 10 deals.

Mkombozi Commercial Bank Plc (MKCB) was the second, with the turnover of Sh46.95 million, obtained from transacting 58,744 shares at the weighted average price of Sh800 per share in 41 deals.

Other active counters on Monday were Tanzania National Investments Company (Nicol), Swissport Tanzania Ltd, Tanzania Portland Cement Company (TPCC), DSE Plc and CRDB Bank Plc.

Share price decreases in other counters led to a 7.03 per cent fall in the DSE All Share Index (DSEI) to 2,027.68 points on Monday from 2,034.71 points on Friday.

The Tanzania Share Index (TSI) remained at 3,694.82 points.

Counters whose share prices decreased were Acacia, which fell to Sh5,380 on Monday from Sh5,570 on Friday, Nation Media Group (NMG) to Sh1,540 from Sh1,560 and Jubilee Holdings Ltd (JHL) to Sh9,100 from Sh9,300.

Market reports show that the total market capitalisation dwindled to Sh19,544.94 billion on Monday from Sh19,612.72 billion on Friday.

The decrease in the market capitalisation resulted from a fall in share prices of listed companies.
