DEAR DIARY: Health is the real wealth, not gold

What you need to know:

  • Aging gracefully is not a popular word in the female kingdom as one grey hair is enough to offset depression

Last week, I shamed the stalker from hell. And yes, it is a true story. After receiving many offers from chauffeurs who want to come to my rescue, I am yet to compile the complete duty roster.

Rest assured everyone will be informed when they’ll be expected at ‘work’. This is definitely good news for me but certainly very bad news for Rasta whose days are numbered. Mr Stalker, soon you will be in my past because we are coming for you. Be afraid.

Moving on swiftly to matters of life and death, I believe it is a known fact that we are what we eat, right? And that all or most of our health problems can be solved by just eating an apple a day. Well, not in the actual sense but the apple symbolises a healthy eating habit; at least that’s how I view it. But did you also know that as you grow older, your immune system changes and does not work as well?

Thanks to medicalnewstoday.com, I have learned how much I reduce my life expectancy by ignoring simple leisure time exercises like brisk walking for up to 75 minutes per week. Just walking is linked to an average increase in life expectancy of 1.8 years compared to people who do not do any physical activity.

But aging need not affect the body’s normal function. Scientists at the American Cancer Society resolved that women who walk for an hour a day can cut their risk of breast cancer in later life.

Why the health concern now, when we can smell the Christmas season-the season to be jolly? I will tell you why. The end of year comes with mixed reactions. It is great that we have survived but another year may spell doom for people like me who are about to begin the next chapter of life.

One New Year means one more year. You do know how women dislike this kind of news. Aging gracefully, is definitely not a popular word in the female kingdom as one grey hair is enough to send people into depression.

This is exactly the kind of news I need not, when I spend the rest of the day sitting, eating, reading and relaxing in front of a machine. Lack of time to exercise is no excuse says Jennipher Walter, a personal trainer and fitness instructor, someone even busier than you, is working out right now. If you look closer, you’ll discover that you do have the time to work out.

Just like you create time to catch up with friends, so should you honour exercise time. The former adds to the junk in your system while the latter takes years off. Do the math.
