CCM hall named after ex-chairman Kikwete

What you need to know:

The proposal to name the hall after Mr Kikwete was floated by the current chairman, President John Magufuli, when opening the congress.

Dodoma. Delegates to the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) extraordinary congress have unanimously agreed to name the new CCM conference hall in Dodoma after Retired President and former party chairman Jakaya Kikwete.

The proposal to name the hall after Mr Kikwete was floated by the current chairman, President John Magufuli, when opening the congress.

He said Mr Kikwete had done a lot of things for CCM, including overseeing the building of the ultra-modern hall.

“You remember that in the past we used to meet in a warehouse…they removed maize sacks and we conducted our meetings, but now we have a big and modern hall, thanks to the work of Mzee Kikwete and others. It is only befitting that we name this hall after him,” he said.  Delegates seconded the proposal by acclamation.

“Mzee Kikwete, I did not ask for your views in advance, but the general congress has accepted the proposal and you have no option but to accept, too,” Dr Magufuli said jokingly.
