Moshi. The opposition political party Chaumma’s chairman, Mr Hashim Rungwe, has been discharged from Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) following his recovery from a recent health scare.
Mr Rungwe was admitted to KCMC on Saturday, June 14, 2025, after experiencing a sudden health complication while on a political tour of the Kilimanjaro Region as part of the C4C campaign.
He was rushed to the referral hospital after his condition deteriorated.
The incident occurred as the Chaumma delegation travelled from Mwanga to Same District, where the tour was scheduled to conclude in Hedaru.
Mr Rungwe’s condition reportedly worsened rapidly, prompting the team to cut short the visit and seek immediate medical attention.
Speaking to The Citizen’s sister newspaper Mwananchi, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Chaumma’s deputy chairperson for Zanzibar, Mr Issa Abbas Hussein, confirmed that Mr Rungwe had been discharged on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, evening after his condition stabilised.
“We thank Almighty God that our leader is now in good health. He has made a full recovery, and we were cleared to leave the hospital yesterday evening,” said Mr Issa.
He added that the Chaumma delegation has since returned to Dar es Salaam and is preparing to resume official duties.
KCMC’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Gabriel Chiseo, also confirmed the discharge, stating that Mr Rungwe had responded well to treatment and had been cleared to resume normal activities.
Mr Rungwe, a prominent opposition politician and presidential candidate in previous general elections, has remained active in grassroots political mobilisation through Chaumma’s C4C campaign, which seeks to promote civic awareness and political engagement across Tanzania.
His brief hospitalisation had raised concern among supporters, with many sending well wishes via social media.
The party has since expressed appreciation for the public’s support and confirmed that Mr Rungwe will soon address the media regarding the continuation of the campaign.
