Dar es Salaam. The Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy in the Ministry of Energy, Mr Innocent Luoga, has urged contractors to accelerate implementation and maintain strict quality standards in the ongoing Gridi Imara electricity projects across Dar es Salaam.

His call came during an inspection tour conducted on Saturday, June 12, 2025, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress made despite several environmental challenges.

“I am pleased with the progress so far, but I have directed contractors to speed up implementation, ensure timely delivery of equipment, and maintain high construction standards. These projects must deliver tangible benefits to the public,” said Mr Luoga.

The Gridi Imara initiative, being implemented by the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (Tanesco) with government funding, is a strategic effort to strengthen the national electricity infrastructure and improve the reliability of power supply across the country.

Mr Luoga underscored the need for strong oversight and meticulous planning to prevent delays and cost overruns.

He further urged Tanesco to tighten its supervision of contractors and ensure that all required materials are delivered promptly.

“These are high-impact projects. Their success hinges on technical competence, timeliness, and quality. The government has provided the necessary financial support, and we owe it to the people to deliver results,” he said, acknowledging President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her commitment to approve the required funds.

Tanesco’s manager of power generation projects, Mr Abdallah Chikoyo—who represented the company’s managing director during the inspection—assured that the utility would enhance its supervisory mechanisms and adopt realistic, results-oriented work plans.

“We are boosting our project management capacity and working closely with stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient delivery,” said Mr Chikoyo.

The projects are expected to significantly enhance electricity distribution in Dar es Salaam and surrounding areas, aligning with the government’s broader objective of delivering a modern, reliable energy infrastructure to support social and economic development.
