ETDCO completes 132kV power transmission line project from Tabora to Katavi

Dar es Salaam. The Electricity Transmission and Distribution Construction and Maintenance Company (ETDCO) has completed the construction of a new 132-kilovolt power transmission line from Tabora Region to Katavi.

The line, which spans 383 kilometres, marks a significant milestone in connecting Katavi Region to the national power grid.

Speaking on June 16, 2025, during the testing of the transmission line at the Mpanda power substation in Katavi, Acting Managing Director of ETDCO, Mr Sadock Mugendi, announced that the construction has been completed at 100 percent.

Mr Mugendi expressed appreciation to the government and the Ministry of Energy, through Tanesco, for entrusting ETDCO with the implementation of this strategic project.

On his part, ETDCO’s acting Director of Technical Services, Dismas Massawe, revealed that the project cost Sh116 billion, fully funded by the government of Tanzania.

He explained that the cost covers the construction of the 383-kilometre power transmission line from Tabora to Mpanda in Katavi.

The project forms part of the government’s broader efforts to extend reliable electricity from the national grid to previously unconnected regions such as Katavi, with the goal of stimulating development through clean, safe, and environmentally friendly energy.
