Matinyi presents credentials, pledges stronger Tanzania–Algeria ties

Dar es Salaam. The new Tanzanian Ambassador to Algeria, Mobhare Matinyi, has officially presented his credentials to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, marking the formal commencement of his diplomatic duties in the North African nation.

The ceremony took place at the State House in Algiers on June 11, 2026.

During brief talks following the presentation, Ambassador Matinyi conveyed greetings and appreciation from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to the Algerian leadership, government and people for sustaining more than six decades of cordial bilateral relations between the two countries.

Speaking to journalists after the audience, Ambassador Matinyi said discussions with President Tebboune focused on strengthening practical cooperation in key sectors, including defence and higher education, to ensure mutual benefits for citizens of both nations.

He added that priority areas for expanded collaboration also include agriculture, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, energy, mining and tourism, as well as enhanced cooperation in science, technology, research and culture.

“I have been tasked by Her Excellency Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan to ensure that our bilateral cooperation delivers tangible benefits to the people of our two countries. I am confident that, under the pragmatic leadership and vision of both presidents, this will be achieved,” said Ambassador Matinyi.

President Tebboune, according to the envoy, reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Tanzania across strategic sectors and support further agreements through joint mechanisms and high-level exchanges.

Ambassador Matinyi becomes Tanzania’s fourth envoy to Algeria, succeeding Ambassadors Omari Yussuf Mzee (2017–2020), Major General Jacob Kingu (2020–2023) and Imani Njalikai (2023–2026).

The Tanzanian Embassy in Algiers also serves as the country’s diplomatic mission to Tunisia, Mauritania, Niger and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
