Mixx by Yas unveils ‘Kila Hatua Mixx’ drive to deepen financial inclusion

Dar es Salaam. Mobile financial services provider Mixx by Yas has rolled out a new campaign dubbed Kila Hatua Mixx, a drive aimed at broadening financial inclusion and accelerating Tanzania’s transition into a digital economy.

Launched in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the campaign builds on a 15-year journey of innovation that has seen Mixx by Yas expand access to financial solutions for millions of Tanzanians.

“We now enable more than 20 million Tanzanians to carry out transactions worth around Sh6 trillion every month,” said Mixx by Yas Chief Executive Officer, Angelica Pesha. “Through our network of over 200,000 agents, we are not only simplifying payments but also creating thousands of indirect jobs. Over 500,000 businesses today accept digital payments through our platforms.”

Company figures show that the service is increasingly woven into Tanzania’s economic fabric: more than 3,000 public and private institutions process payments through Mixx by Yas, while over six million customers have tapped into its loan services worth a cumulative Sh1 trillion. Its savings products have also mobilised more than Sh600 billion, signalling a shift towards a stronger savings culture.

Yet despite this progress, Ms Pesha noted that many Tanzanians remain outside the formal financial system.

“The journey is far from over,” she said. “We are intensifying efforts to reach underserved groups—especially youth and women—through products spanning loans, savings, insurance, investments and digital technology.”

During a panel discussion on The Role of Mobile Financial Service Providers in Driving Financial Inclusion in Tanzania, University of Dar es Salaam lecturer Dr Amina Abdul Baamary praised the firm for offering services that reflect real challenges faced by ordinary citizens.

“Products like Kibubu, Lipa kwa Simu, Nivushe Plus, and Busitisha directly address the barriers faced by low-income earners, small traders and marginalised groups,” she said. “This is an example of how technology can be tailored to deliver real solutions on the ground.”

The launch drew senior executives from Yas Group, regulators, telecom and banking stakeholders, business partners and media representatives.

With its new campaign, Mixx by Yas is positioning itself not just as a payment platform, but as a long-term partner in financial empowerment—captured under its tagline: Mixx by Yas – More than Money.
