Mwamvita Makamba

Former Vodacom Group head of external affairs, Mwamvita Makamba has departed the company after 14 years of service.

In an announcement, Mwavita said she felt  it was time to redirect her focus after 14 years at one of the leading telecommunication companies in Africa, and that she is proud of what she has done with the company.

"Because of the familial bond we created, and the trust that my leaders reposed in me, it was an agonising decision to leave this family — one of the most difficult decisions that I have had to make. But 14 years is a good run, and I am fulfilled” reads part of her statement.

She added: Contributing to Vodacom's vision of using technology to connect things and people to a better future while solving the most pressing humanitarian challenges in the markets it operates has been an absolute privilege.”

Mwamvita said she’s planning to use the year-long leave to explore new ventures and tend to personal matters.

During her 14 years with Vodacom, she pioneered several key Vodacom initiatives in Africa including M-Mama, an emergency transport project aiming to help mothers and newborns access vital life-saving healthcare in rural areas of Tanzania.

Prior to the last position, Makamba held numerous positions at Vodacom, including Head of Pan Africa Business Development for Vodacom Business Africa and Enterprise Unit, Managing Executive: Corporate Affairs & Trustee at Vodafone Foundation, Director of Corporate Affairs, Chief Officer for Corporate Affairs, Business, and Enterprise Sales among others.
