Arusha. More than 2,000 farmers growing coffee, pigeon peas and other crops in Arusha and Manyara regions have benefited from Mixx digital financial services, enabling them to receive crop payments and access loans and insurance without travelling long distances in search of financial services.
Mixx by Yas Northern Zone Commercial Manager, Eric Sosthenes said the services are helping farmers manage their money more securely and conveniently while cutting the time and costs previously associated with accessing financial services.
Speaking during the Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibitions in Arusha, Mr Sosthenes said the Mixx Kilimo service enables farmers to receive crop payments digitally and access other financial services designed to support their farming activities.
“We want farmers to be able to receive their money safely and on time without having to travel long distances. Through Mixx Kilimo, we are making financial services more accessible and helping farmers manage and grow their farming activities,” he said.
Mr Sosthenes said the service forms part of Mixx’s efforts to deepen financial inclusion among farmers, particularly those in areas where access to conventional financial services can involve additional travel, time and costs.
Some farmers using the service, including Ezekiel Mlingi and Baraka Emmanuel, said digital financial services had reduced the need to travel long distances to access financial services.
They said being able to receive money and carry out transactions through their mobile phones had made it easier to manage their finances while allowing them to spend more time on productive farming activities.
Mixx said it will continue expanding access to Mixx Kilimo to reach more farmers with secure and convenient financial services as part of broader efforts to use technology to improve agricultural activities and farmers’ livelihoods.
