Authorities in Tabora Region are delving into the mysterious deaths of two individuals found lifeless in a storeroom at a bar in Ipuli Ward, Majengo Street.
The deceased have been identified as Peter Masari, a retired officer of the Tanzania People's Defence Forces (TPDF) and the owner of the bar, and his employee, Mwatano.
The grim discovery was made on Friday morning after the pair entered the storeroom on Thursday night. The room, which lacked windows, has raised questions about the circumstances leading to their deaths.
Tabora Regional Police Commander Richard Abwao confirmed that the bodies had been taken to Kitete Referral Hospital for autopsy, with forensic investigations set to determine the cause of death.
Witnesses have suggested that Masari and Mwatano were involved in a long-term relationship, though police are still verifying these claims.
Majengo Local Government Chairman Jumanne Kazimoto recounted how the incident unfolded. While at his office, a man approached him, claiming his wife was missing.
Their subsequent search led them to Masari's private residence, where they found the door open. Inside, they discovered the bodies of Masari and Mwatano, both naked, with Mwatano’s body reportedly foaming at the mouth.
"We immediately notified the police, who arrived shortly after," Kazimoto explained.
Ulimwengu Matabula, Secretary for Ideology and Publicity of Ipuli Ward’s Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), confirmed that the bodies were discovered unclothed and had been moved to the hospital for further examination.
The investigation into the tragic and enigmatic deaths is ongoing, as authorities work to shed light on the events leading to this unsettling discovery.
