Dodoma. President Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday laid the foundation stone for the construction of Chama Cha Mapinduzi’s (CCM) new national headquarters in Dodoma, describing the milestone as a symbol of the party’s enduring strength, legacy and vision.
“I am proud that Tanzanian companies have been entrusted with both the design and construction of this project. We believe the contractors and consultants will deliver it on time,” said President Hassan, who is also CCM’s national chairperson.
The five-storey building is expected to be completed in time for the party’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2027.
Speaking during the live-broadcast event on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, President Hassan said the new headquarters realises the aspirations of the party’s founders, led by the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
“This occasion reflects CCM’s strength and its capacity to plan, make decisions and execute major initiatives of national relevance. It is more than just an office block—it will stand as a permanent symbol of the party’s unity and identity, both in Tanzania and beyond,” she said.
Quoting the late Abeid Amani Karume, she added, “For the party to stand, it must be seen, heard about and respected.”
President Hassan underscored the importance of the new headquarters as a centre for learning, research, debate and policymaking—especially for the younger generation.
However, she reminded CCM members that the true strength of the party does not reside in grand infrastructure but in service to the people, integrity, and remaining connected to the grassroots.
“CCM has always been the people’s party. Let us uphold that legacy,” she said.
The Sh34.13 billion project will be funded through the party’s investment ventures and voluntary contributions.
“Everyone is welcome to contribute. Together, we can give CCM a new face and a stronger future,” the President said.
CCM Secretary General, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, revealed that the party had already secured initial funding of Sh8 billion from CCM-owned companies—Jitegemee Trading Company Limited and Jitegemee Holdings Company Limited.

“These companies not only contribute to the development of the party, but also to the national economy. They have paid Sh25 billion in taxes to the Tanzania Revenue Authority and Sh16.5 billion in mineral royalties to the Mining Commission, bringing the total to over Sh42 billion,” Dr Nchimbi said, noting their impact on employment.
He added that the new project is a continuation of CCM’s earlier decision to vacate its Chimwaga premises to make way for the establishment of the University of Dodoma, which now accommodates a significant number of students from across the country.
CCM Vice Chairman (Mainland), Mr Stephen Wassira, said the project reflects a strategic shift in planning aligned with the current age of science and technology.
“This is not a delay—it is a deliberate and forward-looking move,” he said.
CCM Vice Chairman (Zanzibar), Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, said the party is now pursuing internal development initiatives with the same resolve it applies to government projects.
“The design of the new headquarters matches the stature and vision of Chama Cha Mapinduzi,” he said.
