He explained that holders of cards that are damaged, lost, or who have moved from one electoral area to another are involved in the ongoing exercise.
Kigoma .The voters cards issued in 2015 and 2020 remain valid and will continue to be used in future general elections, regardless of the change in the name of the Electoral Commission from the National Electoral Commission to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Speaking yesterday during a tour to inspect voter registration centres in Kasulu District Municipality, the Director of Elections at the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr Kailima Ramadhan, said voters with these cards are not involved in the voter register improvement exercise.
“I would like to call upon those whose cards bear the name of the National Electoral Commission and who think that the change of the Commission’s name necessitates changing their cards to understand that their cards are valid according to Section 168 of the Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government Elections Act No. 1 of 2024,” he said
During his tour, Mr Kailima Ramadhan was accompanied by the Registration Officer of Kasulu Vijini Constituency, Mr Emmanuel Ladislaus, and other senior officials.
He explained that holders of cards that are damaged, lost, or who have moved from one electoral area to another are involved in the ongoing exercise.
“I have noted that there are voters with old cards issued before 2015 (paper cards); they should come to the centres to register afresh because the system used then is different from the current one,” he added.
Mr Kailima reminded citizens in the regions of Kigoma, Tabora, and Katavi that there were three days left for the voter register improvement exercise to conclude in their regions.
Therefore, it is crucial for people to turn out in large numbers and make good use of these days.
The voter register improvement exercise in these regions started on July 20, 2024, and will run for seven days until July 26, 2024, with centres opening at 8am and closing at 6pm.
