Dar es Salaam. Tanzania is hosting the 14th African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) from May 29 to 31 at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, highlighting its efforts in digital inclusion and public-private partnerships.
Led by the ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the government is using the platform to demonstrate practical approaches to connecting underserved communities.
In a statement, the Ministry said Tanzania is committed to driving inclusive and secure digital systems across Africa.
Airtel Tanzania is supporting the event as a strategic and technical partner. “It’s not enough to talk about digital transformation—we must act,” said Airtel Tanzania’s Director of Communications and Regulatory Affairs, Beatrice Singano.
Airtel has worked with the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF) to expand mobile networks to remote areas and introduced initiatives such as SmartWASOMI in schools and Fursa Lab for youth digital skills development.
The company is also advocating for regulatory frameworks that support innovation, including sandbox models to test new technologies. “We need policies that support startups and cross-border platforms,” Ms Singano said.
During the three-day forum, Airtel is providing Wi-Fi, devices, and technical support. “AfIGF is not just a platform to speak—it’s a space to listen and learn,” she added.
Held under the theme “Empowering Africa’s Digital Future”, the forum brings together policymakers, civil society, and private sector players to push for equitable access, digital literacy and effective governance.
