Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) has organized the BQ Open Juniors Tennis Tournament to be held at the club’s courts from November 21-22, this year.

The club’s tennis section coach Salumu Mvita said yesterday that players will compete in single and doubles during the event designed to identify young talents.

‘This year’s championship will involve both boys and girls. They will compete in the under 8,10,12,14 and 18 category ‘Mvita told the Citizen.

He appealed to parents to register their children for the tournament saying registration is already in progress at the Dsm Gymkhana club tennis section

‘This year’s event is special because the most improved players for the whole season will be named according to age categories, ‘he said. ‘The event will feature budding players of different age categories with the ultimate goal being to tap new talents and groom them,” he said.

He said the event is open to juniors but, as usual, they expect players from local clubs only as they did not extend invitation outside.

Mvita said tournaments like this are important to improve the standard of the game in the country and identify talent.

He said invitations have been sent to Arusha Gymkhana Club, Kijitonyama Tennis Club of Dar es Salaam, Morogoro Gymkhana Club, Moshi Gymkhana Club and hosts DGC.

“We have a lot of juniors who are undergoing tennis development programmes and this will be a good chance for them to realize their dreams. Players will battle it out in singles and doubles events during the tournament.
