Envoy pledges support for Dar

Dar es Salaam. Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Klaus Peter Brandes says the door is open for Tanzanian soccer teams seeking technical support from his country.
Speaking during the 2013 Uefa Champions final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund at Goethe Institut, Brandes said he would like to see many Tanzanians secure knowledge on various issues pertaining to modern football.
Brandes urged those wishing to get such support to channel their requests to the Germany embassy through the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and the ministry responsible for sports.
“For years, Tanzania and Germany have been teaming up in many aspects, including sports,” the ambassador said.
“Therefore, we are ready to support those wishing to acquire football technical skills from our country achieve their mission because ours is one of the best soccer playing nations in the world.”
He said the Uefa Champions League final between Bayern and Dortmund sent a clear signal how the Germany football has evolved in the past few years.
A host of soccer fans thronged Goethe Institut on Saturday night at the invitation of the Germany embassy to witness the final on TV.
Other entertainment spots in the country were also fully packed as Tanzanian soccer enthusiasts joined the rest of the world in witnessing the final from Wembley Stadium in London, England.
After failing several times on the big stage, Bayern finally took a huge step towards banishing those ghosts by defeating quality Dortmund 2-1 at London’s Wembley Stadium.
The hard-fought victory enabled Bayern to solidify their place as the most dominant team in European football today.
“As you know, we have been conducting coaching courses in Germany for many years and Tanzanians are among those whom have benefited from the courses. “The door is still open to those wishing to benefit from such courses and other issues pertaining to football development,” said Brandes.
He also heaped praise on the two teams, saying they reached the final after overcoming some of the best sides in the world, which include Real Madrid and FC Barcelona both from Spain.
“They have done tremendous job to reach the final stage. It is a great honor to all Germans,” he said.
