Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) striker Clement Mzize remains the only Tanzanian player in contention for the Golden Boot in the ongoing Mainland Tanzania Premier League season.
Mzize, who has scored 13 goals so far, has demonstrated exceptional goal-scoring form and is locked in a fierce battle with six foreign players, all vying for the league’s top scorer accolade.
Currently leading the Golden Boot race is Simba SC’s Ivorian attacking midfielder Jean Ahoua, who has netted 16 goals this season.
Close behind is another Yanga player, Zimbabwean forward Prince Dube, who also has 13 goals, alongside Simba’s Cameroonian striker Leonel Ateba, also with 13 goals.
Also on the list are Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala of Simba and Ghanaian forward Jonathan Sowah of Singida Black Stars, each with 12 goals.
In the mix as well is Yanga’s Ivorian playmaker Pacome Zouzoua, who has scored 11 goals, while Singida Black Stars’ striker Elvis Rupia has tallied 10 goals.
Former Yanga striker Stephane Aziz Ki, last season’s Golden Boot winner with 21 goals, has scored nine goals this term before transferring to Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.
Despite his departure, his earlier contributions still reflect his impact on the league.
Besides Mzize, a few other Tanzanian strikers have also made their mark this season.
Paul Peter of Dodoma Jiji FC has scored eight goals, while Offen Chikola of Tabora United and Idd Kipagwile, also of Dodoma Jiji, have each netted seven goals.
Golden glove battle intensifies
As the race for the Golden Boot remains competitive, the contest for the Golden Glove—awarded to the league’s best goalkeeper—is also heating up.
Leading the clean sheet rankings is Simba SC’s Mousa Camara, who has recorded an impressive 18 shutouts this season, underlining his critical role in Simba’s defensive dominance.
Trailing closely is Yanga’s dependable goalkeeper Djigui Diarra, with 16 clean sheets.
The head-to-head battle between these two elite keepers adds further excitement to the title race and could be decisive in the remaining fixtures.
With the season approaching its climax, both the Golden Boot and Golden Glove competitions are expected to go down to the wire, showcasing individual brilliance that continues to shape the league’s outcome.
