RC urges Moshi residents to embrace Kili Marathon 2024 opportunities

Moshi. The Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner (RC) Nurdin Babu, has urged the residents of the region, especially businessmen, to take advantage of the business opportunities arising from the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon event.

RC Babu gave the advice today in a presser regarding the preparations for the international event as far as the regional government was concerned in the preparations.

"This race is expected to involve more than 10,000 participants and a similar number of other people who will come to the Kilimanjaro region to follow this important sporting event in East Africa", he said, adding, the numbers also involves participants and other people from abroad.

He said, "The information I have so far is that, the accommodation facilities within the Moshi town and the neighbouring districts within Kilimanjaro region are already fully occupied, forcing others to seek accommodation facilities in the neighbouring region of Arusha".

"May I continue to urge local businessmen to use other commercial opportunities other than lodges because during this important event, there are many business opportunities", he added.

In addition, Babu commended the organizers of the event, which he said, apart from raising the talents of athletes as well as the regional and national economy, the race also supports President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts aimed at promoting the sports sector in the country.

Regarding preparations at the regional level, Babu said that everything was going well, including the guarantee of security for the participants and other people who will visit the region during the entire week of the international event.

"We at the regional level have prepared well for this important event and also to ensure security before and after the race to all participants and other visitors", he said.

Babu urged all those who will visit the Kilimanjaro Region during the event to use that opportunity to visit the tourist attractions in the region, which he said includes Mount Kilimanjaro which has a unique international recognition.

Babu also thanked the organizers of the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon for giving the opportunity to the leadership of the region to organize a special jogging event on February 24, this year.

“This jogging event, apart from being used as a warm-up for the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon, scheduled for February 25, this year, it will also be used to raise awareness of inauguration of this year’s Uhuru Torch Race, which is expected to take place in Kilimanjaro region on April 2, this year”, he noted.

The Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Brand Manager, Cathrine Lyakurwa said all is set for the Sunday event.

"We have plenty of surprises for the participants both at the stadium and Kili Dome at Moshi Club and this is a must attend"she said adding that alot has been improved this year including an expanded area, more parking space and entertainment.

Tigo Northern Zone Director, Henry Kinabo said Tigo is proud to partner with the event for nine years now on a row adding that this time they will set up several wifi areas which will be free of charge during the Marathon period.

Gee Soseji Marketing Manager, Margret Karua, assured 5km Fin Run participant that they will have a special experience.

"We are pretty new sponsors to the marathon and we look forward to a thrilling event come Sunday," she said.

Other sponsors include water table sponsors- Simba Cement, TPC Sugar, Kilimanjaro Water and CRDB. Official partners GardaWorld Tanzania, CMC Automobiles and Salinero Hotel while official suppliers are Kibo Palace Hotel and Keys Hotel.
