50 to compete for bodybuilding contest in Mbeya

Dar es Salaam. A total of 50 bodybuilders are set to compete in The Green Fitness Gym 2025 championship, scheduled for July 7 in Mbeya Region.
Event coordinator Edward Mwakasyuka said the championship will take place at Tughimbe Hall and will feature participants from various districts across Mbeya.
According to Mwakasyuka, the main goal of the event is to revive and promote interest in bodybuilding in the country.
“Registration forms are already available at The Green Fitness Gym, and we urge bodybuilders from Mbeya and nearby regions to sign up,” he said.
Mwakasyuka explained that from the initial 50 participants, 12 will be selected to compete in the grand finale of the championship.
The selection process will be based on performance and adherence to competition standards.
He added that the event will be an Open Championship, allowing bodybuilders from across the region to participate.
To build excitement and raise the profile of the event, several high-profile bodybuilding athletes are expected to attend.
Mwakasyuka, who previously served as chairman of the Tanzania Bodybuilding Association (TWBA), noted that preparations are already in full swing.
Some competitors have already begun training specifically for the event, signaling strong anticipation. “The competition will not only showcase local talent but also reward excellence,” he said.
“The overall winner will be crowned Mr Green Fitness Gym. There will also be prizes for the first and second runners-up, while others will receive medals and cash incentives.”
Mwakasyuka said such prizes are aimed at encouraging young athletes to take bodybuilding seriously and see it as a viable sport.
One of the notable personalities expected to attend is Erick Majura, a past winner of the East Africa Best Bodybuilder Award. His presence is expected to energize both participants and spectators.
