Dar Basketball League secures sponsorship worth Sh639.5 million from betPawa

Dar es Salaam. Popular sports betting company betPawa has signed a one-year sponsorship deal worth Sh639, 466,554 with the Dar es Salaam Basketball League (BDL).
This landmark agreement marks the first-ever official sponsorship of basketball in Tanzania. The deal was signed yesterday by betPawa’s Head of Sports Development and CSR, Raquel Puig, and BD Secretary General Mpoki Mwakipake during a ceremony held at Don Bosco Hall in Upanga.
Speaking at the event, Puig expressed pride in supporting the development of sports in Tanzania, particularly basketball, which ranks among the world’s most popular sports
“betPawa is committed to supporting communities, especially through sports. Basketball attracts a vast fanbase, and we believe this sponsorship will help us achieve our goals while contributing to the growth of sports in Tanzania,”
We have done similar work in several East African countries, and this is our second time supporting basketball in Tanzania,” said Puig.
She added that the partnership will also involve branding, fan engagement activities, and media coverage to boost the visibility of the Dar es Salaam Basketball League.
“In our long-term sports investment strategy, betPawa’s involvement reflects a strong commitment to the sustainable development of basketball in Tanzania,” she said.

The funds will be transferred directly to their mobile accounts shortly after the match, according to betPawa’s East Africa Marketing Manager, Borah Ndanyungu. “This partnership represents a major step forward for Tanzanian basketball.
The Locker Room Bonus will not only elevate competition but also offer crucial financial support to players,” said Ndanyungu.
For her part, Ivy Nyonyozi Igunduura, betPawa East Africa Regional Manager for CSR and Sports Development, reiterated their commitment to basketball in Tanzania.
“At betPawa, we believe in rewarding excellence. This initiative ensures that players are further motivated and recognized for their efforts,” said Igunduura.
Meanwhile, BD Secretary General Mpoki Mwakipake described the sponsorship as a major boost for the league and encouraged fans to expect intense competition when the regional league kicks off on May 10.
“This historic sponsorship will significantly motivate players to compete for victory and financial reward.
With the Locker Room Bonus in place, the competition will intensify and help elevate players’ careers,” Mwakipake said.
