Dar es Salaam. Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) have once again etched their name in Tanzanian football history after securing their fourth consecutive Mainland Premier League title.
The Jangwani-based giants defeated traditional rivals Simba SC 2-0 in a high-stakes Kariakoo Derby held at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, sealing the 2024/2025 season in spectacular fashion.
With this latest triumph, Yanga have now matched Simba’s record of winning four successive league titles. Simba achieved the feat between 2017/2018 and 2020/2021.
However, what makes Yanga's recent success even more remarkable is the dominant fashion in which they clinched the title, setting a new benchmark in terms of performance.
This season, Yanga finished at the top of the table with 82 points from 30 matches.
They recorded 27 wins, just two losses, and a single draw, showcasing consistency and superiority throughout the campaign.
Notably, they scored 83 goals—an impressive attacking output—while conceding only 10, underlining their strength on both ends of the pitch.
Comparatively, Yanga had already shown upward progress in the previous three seasons.
In the 2023/2024 season, they collected 80 points with 71 goals scored and 14 conceded. In 2022/2023, they gathered 78 points, netting 61 times and allowing 18 goals.
Their 2021/2022 campaign yielded 74 points, 49 goals scored, and just eight goals conceded—still impressive, but clearly outshone by their most recent season.
This year’s title marks Yanga’s 31st league championship in history, further reinforcing their legacy as one of Tanzania’s football powerhouses.
Their previous streak of domestic dominance came between 2014/2015 and 2016/2017, when they won three consecutive titles before Simba took over for four straight years.
Yanga’s 2024/2025 success is not only a statistical milestone but also a symbolic statement of the club’s resilience, planning, and ambition.
The management, technical bench, and players have all been lauded for their contribution to what is now considered the club’s most complete season.
The Kariakoo Derby win that sealed the title was particularly sweet, given the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.
The tension-filled encounter saw Yanga controlling the match and clinically converting chances, leaving Simba without a response.
The win was a defining moment that crowned their campaign and sent a strong message to the rest of the league.
As fans across the country celebrate, attention now shifts to what lies ahead for the Jangwani giants.
With their dominance reaffirmed, the challenge will be to maintain this momentum both domestically and in continental competitions.
In the eyes of many supporters and analysts, Yanga’s 2024/2025 season will go down as one of the greatest in Tanzanian football—a season of records, rivalry, and remarkable football.
