Unguja. ACT Wazalendo presidential candidate and Zanzibar’s First Vice President, Othman Masoud Othman, is set to collect his nomination forms on Sunday, August 31, at the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) offices in Maisara.
His move comes after receiving overwhelming endorsement from the party’s General Assembly, where he was approved with 99.5 percent of the votes cast.
Mr. Othman, who also serves as ACT Wazalendo’s National Chairperson, will be accompanied to the ZEC offices by senior party leaders and members in what the party says is expected to be a highly symbolic event.
After completing the process, the candidate will proceed to address party members and supporters at the ACT Wazalendo headquarters grounds in Vuga, Unguja.
Party leaders from across Zanzibar’s two main islands—Unguja and Pemba—are expected to attend the event, which the party has described as a historic moment in its campaign to advance the vision of a united and fully sovereign new Zanzibar.
Campaigns in Zanzibar are expected to kick off on September 11.
