Dodoma. The government has said it will not hesitate to take legal against Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that engage themselves in activities that are contrary to those that they were registered for.

“We will keep making routine follow-ups on their activities and take action against those that will be proved to be going contrary to the activities for which they were registered,” Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa said in Parliament on June, 07, 2018.

Mr Majaliwa was responding to a question from Dr Stephen Kirushwa (Londigo), who wanted to know when will the government de-register NGOs that have shifted to ‘political and seditious’ instead of maintaining the country’s peace and other ‘important’ activities that they were registered for.

According to Mr Majaliwa, the NGOs were helping the government in conducting a number of important services across the country. “This is done in the belief that the government alone cannot do everything everywhere,” he said.

He said the government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, has a well laid down procedure of making ollow-ups and evaluation of activities of NGOs.

“Should it be noted that there are NGOs that are doing contrary to the reasons for which they were registered then the government will act accordingly,” he said.

Mr Majaliwa said he had personally been to Longido where he witnessed that there were a total of 39 NGOs within the district.

“I also came to realize that their presence was a cause for some challenges there…It is not good that they stop do contrary to what they were registered for,” he said.
