Mwanza. Passengers travelling with Fastjet Airline from Mwanza to Dar es Salaam were on Tuesday, November 7, stranaded at the airport for several hours following a delay of the plane caused by poor weather.

Cargo transporters, including newspaper companies, were among customers affected by the delay.

The plane that was expected to land in Mwanza at 8:30am on Tuesday was forced to temporarily land at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) before returning for a successful landing at 11am.

Also, the situation affected at least 50 passengers who were supposed to travel to Dar es Salaam at 8:30pm. Instead, they were forced to wait until 11pm for the plane’s arrival.

Speaking to The Citizen at the airport on Tuesday night, one of the passengers, Ms Zuwena Mohamed, blamed Fastjet for not communicating accurate information to passengers and instead  pleading for patience.

“We waited from 8pm to 10:30pm to be told that the plane was expected at midnight,” she said.

When contacted on Wednesday, FastJet Mwanza manager Ezekiel Manyiga declined to comment, saying that it was only the airliner’s top leaders who had the mandate to clarify on the matter.

On October 24, this year, more than 70 passengers scheduled to travel using the airliner’s plane were stranded at the airport for hours in what the company claimed was caused by technical problems to its plane.

The company was forced to pay passengers Sh30, 000 to sustain expenses, while others had to be refunded air tickets to enable them look for alternative flights.
