Regional Commissioner’s appeal to local leaders

Mbeya. The Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Mr Amos Makalla, has appealed to religious and traditional leaders to help in ‘cleansing’ the region by revoking bad rituals.

Speaking in a meeting which brought together more than 500 religious and traditional leaders as well as ward executives, Mr Makalla blamed superstition as being the major force behind a number of bad incidents which have happened in the region.

He said Mbeya is among Regions which lead in food production, among other reputations, therefore it was unbecoming that it is associated with a lot of calamities which can be prevented.

The meeting has been held only days and our sister paper, Mwananchi, revealed in its analytical story 11 bad incidents which happened in Mbeya Region in more than a decade.

Mr Makalla said many of these incidents were fuelled by superstitious behavious of many residents of the Region.
