  • Total has issued an alert over a con syndicate promising non-existent jobs to people interested in working on the Tanzania-Uganda crude oil pipeline project.

Dar es Salaam. Total East Africa Midstream has cautioned the public over unscrupulous companies reportedly offering jobs in the Tanzania-Uganda pipeline project.

Work on the more than 1400Kms crude oil pipeline connecting the port of Tanga and Uganda oil fields in Hoima is expected to start soon.

Total said unsolicited firms were promising job seekers fake jobs under the mammoth East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project.

It warned that it should not be associated with the companies and individuals who have issued the fake job announcements and asked members of the public to report such people to the police.

“Our recruitment policy is clear and transparent,” it said in a statement published in The Citizen newspaper on Thursday October 25, 2018.

“For skilled jobs, whenever a vacancy is available, it’s advertised in newspapers in Tanzania and Uganda and uploaded on the EACOP project website,” said.

“Positions are taken through a rigorous, competitive and transparent recruitment exercise as mandated by Tanzanian and Ugandan labour laws and are selected on merit. Any form of canvassing is strictly prohibited,” added the company.

The EACOP is a 1,443km crude oil export pipeline that will transport Uganda’s crude oil from Kabaale – Hoima in Uganda to the Chongoleani peninsula near Tanga port in Tanzania.

Total is spearheading the construction of the crude oil pipeline on behalf of the joint venture partners.

During construction, EACOP is expected to generate between 10,000 and 15,000 direct jobs and 30,000 temporary jobs at peak.

Unscrupulous individuals have been calling for job applicants interested in working on the project to apply through the fake announcements on social media, with an aim to con job seekers.
