Dar es Salaam. The ruling party, CCM, on September 12, picked Zuberi Kuchauka to contest in the Liwale Constituency by-election in Lindi Region.

The decision was reached in a CCM’s Central Committee meeting held in Dodoma under the chairmanship of party’s Zanzibar vice chairman, who doubles as the President of Zanzibar, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein.

Mr Kuchauka, who was the MP for Liwale Constituency on a Civil United Front CUF ticket, decamped to CCM last month, a move that disqualified him from being a legislator.

According to a statement released by the CCM’s secretary for ideology and publicity, Mr Humphrey Polepole, the CC has instructed the union and the revolutionary government of Zanzibar to continue addressing challenges that Tanzanians are facing.

He also commended the public for continuing to maintain peace and unity during the ongoing campaigns.
