Dar es Salaam. At least Sh10 billion will be spent on renovation of 30 Folk Development Colleges (FDC) across the country in the 2018/19 financial year.

This was revealed on Monday, June 11, in the Parliament in Dodoma by deputy minister for Education, Science and Technology William ole Nasha as he was responding to a supplement question by Mlimba MP on Chadema ticket Susan Kiwanga.

The move, according to the deputy minister, aims at equipping residents, especially in rural areas, to acquire technical skills.

“The government would ensure that all the colleges are well equipped to enable people, especially those in the rural areas, who have no access to secondary schools to acquire technical skills,” he said.

He went on to explain that the government is also implementing a $100 million Education and Skills for Productive Jobs (ESPJ) project aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity.

“The government also focuses on promoting the expansion and quality of skills development opportunities in selected economic sectors,” added the deputy minister.
