Dar es Salaam. The United Nations Security Council has stressed that all UN member states must fully, comprehensively and immediately implement all relevant Security Council resolutions on North Korea.

This was an agreement at the end of urgent consultations to address the ‘highly provocative’ launch of a ballistic missile by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

In a statement issued at the end of the consultations, the Security Council also emphasised the vital importance of the North Korea to immediately show sincere commitment to denuclearisation through concrete action.

The council noted that North Korea continuation of missile launches do not only create tensions in the Korean Peninsula and beyond but also undermines regional peace and stability and have caused grave security concerns around the world.

“The Security Council reiterates the importance of maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in North-East Asia at large, expresses its commitment to a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution to the situation, and welcomes efforts by Council members, as well as other States, to facilitate a peaceful and comprehensive solution through dialogue,” reads part of the statement.

The consultations were held to address the highly provocative launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea. The missile flew over Japan on 14 September 2017, less than three weeks after the North Korea launched a ballistic missile over Japan on August 28, 2017, less than two weeks after it also conducted a test of an advanced nuclear device on September 3, 2017, and only three days after the Security Council unanimously adopted resolution number 2375 (2017).
