What is the Tuje Pamoja Challenge?

Simply the phrase “Tuje Pamoja” requires action,we want to encourage the people of Tanzania and the international community to take collective action against climate change. We believe in the power of people and an active community in generating lasting change, we hope to inspire and empower everyone to take action towards protecting our natural resources.

With the compounding interactions of climate change, deforestation and loss of biodiversity, the Kilimanjaro region is suffering; the glaciers atop the mountain have declined dramatically over the past 20 years, and rainfall has decreased.

All of these interactions have lead to increasing danger to the natural ecosystem and wildlife, and to the people that rely on it for their livelihood.

By planting millions of trees and increasing forest coverage in the area, levels of rainfall will improve and the trees can provide valuable resources; absorption of carbon dioxide and air-borne pollutants; exuding oxygen, and restoring biodiversity and ecological stability to the region.

Our approach for this goal is to take action! We are planting trees by the THOUSANDS in a bid to restore the areas affected by deforestation and environmental degradation. Seedlings native to Tanzania are being planted throughout the Kilimanjaro region, with plans to extend the planting areas to Dodoma in 2019. In 2018 we have already planted over 75,000 trees, and we hope that over the next few years, this number will rise into the millions!
