Airtel Tanzania board chairman Dr Omary Nundu dies at the age of 71

Dar es Salaam. Former minister of Transport and TTCL board chairman Mr Omary Nundu has died at the age of 71.

According to the information released today, Wednesday, September 11, 2019, by the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), Mr Nundu was brought to the hospital from his home while he was already dead.

His body is preserved at the Lugalo General Military Hospital.

President John Magufuli appointed the former minister for Transport as the new TTCL board chairman on February 2017.

Dr Nundu, served as Tanga Urban MP between 2010 and 2015 before he was defeated by current Tanga legislator, Mr Mussa Mbarouk.

On June 12, 2019, President Magufuli appointed the former lawmaker as the board chairman of the Airtel Tanzania as part of the implementation of the agreements between the Government of Tanzania and Bharti Airtel Tanzania. 

Dr Nundu was born on August 6, 1948. Prior to his appointment as TCCL board chairman, he served as Tanzania Permanent Representative of Tanzania to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Director of International Affairs, Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, and Head of Civil Aviation Sector in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
